Structural engineers with Performance Engineering provided structural engineering design services for the Hastings Science Center. The new, two story facility of approximately 60,000 square feet, houses the classrooms and labs for the science department at the College. The interior central corridor is used for study and gathering space, and the building wings contain classrooms and offices. The building consists of exterior precast concrete panels and composite structural steel floor systems. Natural lighting and openness is maximized through the use of raised clerestory roof areas. The central corridor is also largely open with the use of a cantilevered floor system that allows for an open two story space.
