Nebraska Heart Hospital

Lincoln, Nebraska

Performance Engineering was retained to provide structural engineering services for a 92,000 square foot, 48-bed extended stay hospital facility specializing in cardiology. The building includes two operating rooms, a vascular lab, two cathlabs, CT exam room, nuclear medicine lab and radiograph lab.

This two story building with partial basement has two large clerestories that run the length of the building. The structural system consists of a normal-weight composite concrete floor deck supported by a composite steel frame.

The building’s foundation is made up of a conventional spread footing system with lateral loads resisted by concrete masonry stair and elevator shafts. In addition, structural steel supports were designed to support the extensive amount of laboratory and operating room equipment. In an effort to speed along the construction phase, foundation and shell structural steel packages were completed months earlier than final building design.

The Nebraska Heart Hospital was a design-build project, where coordination with the owner, architects and contractor was a key to success. Project Cost: $44 Million
